TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

 Mary C. Austin, Transportation Dispatcher

(740) 689-6202

The Ohio Revised Code section 5901.03(H) requires the Fairfield County Veterans Service Commission to establish regularly scheduled transportation for veterans to and from The Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) whose district the county is within, through contractual agreements or through other arrangements determined by the commission to be most cost-effective.

The Fairfield County Veterans Service Office will provide transportation for Fairfield County residents to and from The Chillicothe VAMC, and may provide transportation to and from Columbus OPC, Dayton VAMC and Cincinnati VAMC if vehicles and/or drivers are available. If not available or it is determined to be more cost effective to do so, the client will be transported to Chillicothe VAMC or Columbus OPC to be transported by the VA shuttle to the Dayton VAMC or Cincinnati VAMC, and picked-up upon their return.

Transportation to the local Lancaster VA CBOC (Clinic) will not be provided to Fairfield County Veterans except in special cases when contacted by the Lancaster VA CBOC, and with the approval of the Veterans Services Dir. /CVSO.

The veteran requesting travel will be interviewed by the Veterans Service Office to determine the need for the travel. A minimum of 48-hour notice before the appointment is required.

To qualify for this service, the veteran must not have, or be able to provide, private transportation for themselves. Veterans having their own means of transportation or who have friends or relatives able to take them to the VA Medical Centers are not expected to use this service.

Whenever it is necessary or beneficial for the veteran to be accompanied to the VA Medical Centers by a spouse or other caregiver, the Veterans Service Officer shall make the necessary arrangements, as space allows.

The Dir/CVSO, after an investigation, reserves the right to refuse transportation to any client causing problems with another client or driver, or violating the transportation rules.
